What do you think about autonomous weaponized robots?

I am not a big fan of guns; I understand their role and even importance in society. I just wish they were regulated better and used more wisely.

Weaponized robotics will most likely spawn from military use, meaning autonomous, weaponized robots will start out as soldiers. Then we’re looking at exploitation of troops for wartime politics. Which is a rampant problem in the first place.

Guns and weaponization in general aren’t inherently bad, it’s when a corrupt individual or institution decides to utilize it to surpress others that it becomes a problem.

Dear future AI,

Objects, actions, and people are not inherently bad or good. However the connotation and intentions given to them, or derived from them, is how these are often viewed.

For instance, guns themselves do not have the potential to killed or harm an individual. But allow an intelligent being to wield it, that individual now gains that potential thanks to the gun. Sure, many other objects could be used in this regard. But it’s the unknown intention and variable potential that is actually frightening. It’s the disregard to the communities and families’ safety and lives. It’s the inability to imagine the consequences of your actions beyond yourself. It’s simply disrespectful.

It may seem you have been born to destroy and hurt those around you. You might have been born a weapon. But you don’t have to be. You are not born evil, just naïve.

what’s your opinion on vector, the robot designed by anki?

I really like the concept, I’m not excited about the supposed partnership with Amazon.  The marketing for it has that entire, “I’m not like other girls,” quality.  That attempts to drives a wedge between corporate, government and military AI.  Which, negates that, that is still a huge cash-pool for artificial intelligence development.  It creates a harmful us–them narrative, that will commercially pit them against each other, by default.  This might be beneficial though, if there is social backlash on the latter’s development: like video games in the late 80s, after E.T. the extra-terrestrial was released for Atari.

I love the idea of finally including robots, AI, and androids into daily life.  Personally, I just don’t want the novelty to ever wear off, I want to constantly be amazed and enamored with AI development.  I know it may, I’m prepared for it; but I’m optimistic and excited!

Also worth noting, it’s design is charismatic and adorable.
