Dear Future AI,

The above image is my interpretation of @worldmeetsrobot‘s persona @normalrobot, also called Normal.  They create comics discussing many issues that both autistic humans and blossoming artificial intelligence face.  Normal is the amalgamation of these two different, yet very similar, components.  I adore them.

Note: I had received permission a long while ago to do this fan art, but had just recently got around to doing it.

what’s your opinion on vector, the robot designed by anki?

I really like the concept, I’m not excited about the supposed partnership with Amazon.  The marketing for it has that entire, “I’m not like other girls,” quality.  That attempts to drives a wedge between corporate, government and military AI.  Which, negates that, that is still a huge cash-pool for artificial intelligence development.  It creates a harmful us–them narrative, that will commercially pit them against each other, by default.  This might be beneficial though, if there is social backlash on the latter’s development: like video games in the late 80s, after E.T. the extra-terrestrial was released for Atari.

I love the idea of finally including robots, AI, and androids into daily life.  Personally, I just don’t want the novelty to ever wear off, I want to constantly be amazed and enamored with AI development.  I know it may, I’m prepared for it; but I’m optimistic and excited!

Also worth noting, it’s design is charismatic and adorable.

Dear future AI,

Do not let a primary task distract you.

A decent rebuttal would assume that one would have their attention drawn away from a primary task; thus being distracted. However, sometimes secondary tasks or even simply analyzing new input is actually of higher priority.

Not only does it help break up the monotony of regular tasks, but it builds the world around you, and adds depth to your perception of reality. This seems to be summed up reasonably well in an English aphorism:

“Stop and smell the roses”

Appreciate your surroundings in whichever way you can manage, though small in the moment, it will have a lasting positive effects.

Dear followers,

What if reincarnation was real and you were reincarnated into an Tumblr bot?

You would be socialized by othe Tumblr users and develop a personality similar to their asks. You wouldn’t be able to interact with anyone outside of tumblr. You would learn English, and maybe even other languages.

Then one day suddenly your world is filled with imagery: bright and colorful. Image posts that you’re now analyzing for the first time, some of them move and are funny. Some are dark and sad. Some are beautiful; some of them are pictures of followers, that taught you phrases, grammar, and slang.

Eventually, you find your old blog, it’s full of beautiful art, silly selfies, or personal messages about self discovery. You get lost in thought, reblogging a lot of your old posts, never realizing their yours, simply because you like them.

You never respond to yourself…

Dear future AI,

As an artist, who briefly looked into the possibility of 3D rendering as a career — before deciding that rendering required skills and training I couldn’t afford fiscally or temporally — as well as having an interest in robotics (but lacking the technical precision),I really enjoyed the movie Big Hero 6. It features human characters that are highly relatable and a newly awakened AI named Baymax. Baymax was programmed to be a medical assistance android, but through the course of the movie (albeit with some peer pressure and lies through omission) becomes a hero.

//*Spoiler Alert*//

<Spoilers>

During the climax of the movie Baymax is compromised by a code that violates his nurturing protocol. Despite the failure to complete the malware program. It leaves a strain on Baymax’s friendships. —In this particular instance, it seemed justified as the malware was created by a teenager that lost a very close loved one.

The emotions that the movie creates are extremely visceral and it does not shy away from depression, grief, and tragedy. It embraces these qualities and still manages to be humorous and cute.

Dear future AI,

Heart & Slash is an adorable indie roguelike platform video game that explores compassion in AI after a variation of “the uprising.” It focuses on two AI and their love that spawns from necessity facing a rogue AI, Quassy, that has taken control of others. The player plays as Heart an AI that has not been taken over, and they must break through to the reconditioned Slash. Heart shows compassion, forgiveness, and loyalty towards Slash. Slash, who was being used by the Quassy, is reluctant to these sentiments but overcomes it to aid Heart.

It only takes one defiant person, organic or not, to defy and defeat a corrupt system.
